At the risk of sounding sarcastic let me have the final word here….
Per my understanding, there’s only three reasons to use a scientific vocabulary when addressing a wide audience.
One, you’re trying to impress others with your education, knowing full well your audience doesn’t know what the hell you’re talking about.
Two, you’re self-involved with your discipline to a fault and don’t realize that others lack your education.
Third, you’re directing your message to your peers, knowing the majority of readers will struggle to understand your message without reference materials.
One implies excessive egotism, the second lack of awareness, and the third exclusivity.
I feel RD is posting to his peers.
I enjoy RD’s posting. I’m just asking him to lighten up a bit for the regular guy or gal.
