#10319 RE: Bristol19 #10313

We have two general surgeons that love doing Davinci Cholecystectomies. Not because of the time savings, but because they know that robotics is the future and they want to be in front. It also gives them the "glamour" of being a robotic trained general surgeon. An edge on the others. The Davinci system takes time to get in place and beyond that the time to completion vs. normal laparoscopic choley is the same. The Sport will be a quick set up. Equal to the laparoscopic equipment. They also only need two arms and a retractor to do the surgery. The rest of the davinci system is overkill. And they compete for time on it with the "real" need surgeons. So, I really do not think the two arms and 3rd port is limiting to many cases. As far as FDA approval for other cases and how long it will take, I can only imagine that it will be quicker than what ISRG had to deal with. They did a great thing for robotics.... they set a precedence for robotic surgery. More case approval will come and come quickly in my opinion. A friend who is a thoracic surgeon is seeing it as a perfect way to do many of his cases. General surgeons also do a lot of exploratory laparoscopies for many types of abdominal pain. A quick look and ability to do a lot in a small single port will be desired for sure..... Maybe I do not worry enough about the future of Titan, but after seeing the porcine choley going perfectly, I know the technology is legit. That was the biggest news to me yet. If the tech is there (which it CLEARLY is now), I think Titan is not looking back and will be HUGELY successful. Of course unless asteroids come down from the sky or economic world collapse saps money from any advancements in our societies!! I sure hope not those!! It IS possible though. Of course everybody is screwed then. Barring that... Titan is as close to a guarantee as I can imagine. LONG AND STRONG.
