With the imminent demise of Itanium the future is looking better and better for Cray and the high to ultra-high products it sells.

I particularly like the way Cray chose AMD's path over INTC after a very through review of both companies future roadmaps.
Hmmm? I remember Red Storm as a development project paid for by Sandia Labs who chose the processor. Alpha had just been killed so there was a lot of misplaced blame on Intel and IPF in some of the national labs. One only has to look at the example of NASA's Columbia system to see what an expensive late mess the Red Storm project was.
Later Cray bought the XD Opteron system from a startup when it became clear that XTs would scale down terribly to the size and cost where most of the bulk of the HPC market lives.
