The overall idea of quicker data via satellite for Gsat is a good one Money. Haven't heard of Maritime Broadband before but looked quickly and it seems they are using Intelsat satellites but their own antenna, as its an Intelsat approved dish.
After the Hughes upgrades at the Gsat ground stations are complete, Gsat is saying 256kbps will be achieved. This isn't fast compared to fiber of course but in places where the infrastructure isn't there, early dialup speeds are good. The Iridium "Next" speeds are supposed to be 1Mbps when this network is complete in 3 or so years. As we know Google and Facebook have been looking at options to provide broadband also, like project loon and the purchase of Titan aerospace the "proposed" long endurance drone maker. The idea of being closer to the earths surface with the sats, or closer with drones means quicker data or voice with less latency.
Being that Gsat put up 24 new birds when they had 48 originally, maybe they have plans in the future being they didn't replace all of them? Yes there are currently satellite companies offering faster speeds, (eg. bgan) but i'm not sure they are on the go. Not positive the Sat-Fi works on the go, but they do offer the roof mounted antenna, so i'm guessing now that the Sat-Fi "might" work on the go. Guess we will see but there is competition coming but it is a ways off. First to market is important, let's see what they do next and Fcc approval of tlps will be needed for the dollars to make the difference, imo.
