Oh my, I'd say anything is better than Vista, no wonder why you have problems all the time...

I have the Windows after Vista I think, been so long I don't remember, all I remember was Vista was terrible...

I'm on 7 and Mikey is right...HUGE improvement over Vista.

My wife got a new computer a few months back and it runs 8. I don't care for it...seems more difficult to navigate and is not quite intuitive enough. That being said I really haven't used it that much so that's probably not a valid review...

I use 7...don't like Vista or 8. Actually had a notebook downgraded from Vista to XP a few years ago.
7 just seems easier to figure things out on....most similar to XP, IMO.

I have two Windows 8.1 computers, and 2 on Windows 7. At first 8.1 was hard to get used to, but I'm quite comfortable with it now and would opt for it over W-7.

OS opinion:

Ico, I had XP on an old home tower - solid!
Probably one of Mr Softie's good OSes.
But I lost the disk - bye bye for that machine.

I also have Vista Home Premium on a laptop -
a pig of an OS. Inefficient, flaky, lumbering,
all IMO.

I like, but don't have, Apple comes from Unix components - solid!
I want to get some modern hardware, and put Ubuntu on it.
I am a Unix fan - you can even run it
on the little PC boards like Raspberry Pi
(a $35 credit-card-size computer).

All this stuff has evolved beyond my comprehension
as to what all is really under the hood, sadly...

Win 8.1 x64 Update 1 from 7

Had 7 x64 for while. Waited nearly year to go 8 & 8.1 and happy enough with move. Seems to use extra ram fine under x64, less crashes (none lately), fast boot.
Main barf might be that IE 11 hard wired in. Some sites aren't configured for it yet and won't load but main ones ok. Sometimes the videos at those problem sites failed to run but finding they finally do. Install Chrome just for the ones that may need a specific loading.
No idea what they'll do under Up 2 when released. Right now can boot straight to desktop like before. Things like Skype run well as do some of the non desktop things. I'd go for it with a little time set aside for learn curve.
Have decent ram, cpu, maybe a large second drive or good size SSD main drive. Their Outlook.com & onedrive are good and all the tools like Lastpass work right. g/l

Windows 8.1 but utilize the option to switch back to 7 for user navigation.
