Pull/push: I believe he's talking about the difference between a consumer asking for information and a company flooding you with it. The first is pull, the latter push. Pull is the future--pull, if I understand all of this, is Neomedia. Pull is Paperclick; pull is aiming your cell phone camera at a bar code or ad or product in a store and finding out something about it on YOUR schedule (at which point companies can provide coupons, offers, try to establish relationship, etc.) Push is unsolicited telemarketers--which turned so many people off they had to pass a law the restrict it. Push is the text-message ads I didn't ask for and started receiving one week after I got a cell phone capable of it. My response? Shut off text messaging.

It's all about individual choice and control these days, from blogs to marketing.

By "Pushing", the mobile company sent messages over the Chinese New Year Period to 300,000 people without their permission.

Every person who received a message was charged $1 on their phone bill.

Every major telco partner severed ties and their liscence was suspensed by the regulating authorities.

Though it was claimed to be an 'accident', within 36 hours, a multi million dollar public company was effectively out of business and all of their clients who relied on their platform (I for one) was left stranded.
