So if the movie "take" from theatre showings is 50 million dollars by the end of Q3- Oct. 31st, 2014 - how much of that money would Medient actually receive? I'm assuming that the theatre chains keep a large amount of the revenue as their revenues... Any idea on the precentage that would actually be REVENUE for Medient? Thanks.

I don't know Doc. I've spent countless hours researching the average percentage theatre owners keep, evidently, it's the best kept secret in Hollywood! I will say this, we will keep a lot more of the profits by self-distributing this platform release. Distributors take a good chunk of profits. With that said, I do hope this limited release does really well and we are able to pick up a couple of distributors. A lot of the distributors have close relationships with theatre chains and we would have a better chance of getting into more theatres. It should also help Atlas sell licenses internationally.

I also want to make something clear, I don't think for a minute, that "Yellow" will pull in $50M from this 5 city platform release. That's just not realistic. However, I do think it's ultimately possible to exceed $50M, if this initial release does well and we can expand Domestically/Internationally and eventually go to VOD/DVD. Although the thought of "Yellow" in theatres is "sexy", I personally think the bulk of the profits will come from VOD/DVD. There's no doubt in my mind, that "Yellow" is going to make a lot of money, I just want people to be realistic about August. JMHO!

Movie theaters do not keep large amount. It really depends on negotiations between a movie chains film buyer and distributor. It's usually 70%-30%. If yellow is picked up by paramount as predicted by Sierra then the terms can go down to 80-20. It really depends on the studio. If yellow trends good based of trailers and if they decide to promote themselves then 70-30 sounds about right. In short movie theaters do not have the upper hand here. Unless this turns into art product then the terms are different. They can just rent out auditorium for a week and collect 100% of grosses.
