I hope you are right but in general TPTB tend to cover for the crooks (MM's, shorters, etc.) and blame the victims (investors, company, et. all).
One high profile example is Overstock. 99% of the shares were in known documented hands. They got hit and hit hard and all the talking heads like Cramer (who I do enjoy watching from time to time) bashed the company. To my knowlegde the facts have never come out and the company has had to sue because the SEC would not do anything even though "O" could prove the daily volumes were not possible given the documented float.
