Never went on that road, too bad, sound like a fun adventure.
Used to live on the north shore in Tahoe Vista CA and worked at Squaw Valley...what fun. Beautiful area but Cali's living costs & taxes were too much, Nevada is much cheaper but not as pretty.

Except for the Tahoe part but housing is outrageously expensive up there.
