"to blame the weapon is pointless" shows a true disregard for reasoning ability.

guns are somewhere on a scale that would run from killing someone with a club to a personal thermonuclear device. simple fact: guns are designed for killing. Scatter more and more of them around until there is no real security concerning who uses them and for what, and more people get shot that shouldn't be shot.

guns have been romanticized as a short-dicked projection of power for so long that they no longer are just a device that can spew out a projectile fast enough to shatter bone and tissue. They are part of our culture, a fetish to many, and a point of detachment from reality for many others.

Sort of like if you have a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail.

And we have a hell of a lot of hammers laying around, 300 million or so, eh?

I used guns at work, hunted for most of my life, etc. but i see no reason for ordinary citizens to need 100 round drum magazines, or handguns in cities. Home protection? okay, but keep grandpa's shotgun locked up. carrying a gun around in the course of going shopping, etc. just presents too many opportunities for bad things to happen, and not necessarily to bad guys.

But then again, i do not live in a state of fear of anything, so perhaps i am unable to relate to people like you that seem to fear the world and think a gun gives you some sort of personal power.
