Thanks. That's pretty much what I was told.

The course is in full run. Better each day and so far Bentley hasn't uttered one cough.

I read about the DM on a blog but I did run that across the Vet before I would give it to them as I wanted to know the specific dosages if that was an acceptable treatment anyway.

This is what I found out...

DM and Hydro (which is what they give for a cough) can be alternated.

DM and Benadryl can be alternated.

Benadryl and Hydro cannot be taken within 12 hours of each other so that doesn't help because hydro is every 12 hours.

DM works great on the "cough, cough, cough, hack" kennel cough type of cough and Benedryl works great for the runny nose, inverted sneeze type of cough that all the pollen around here causes.

BTW, which I am sure you know but others may not -

Just like Tylenol - A decongestant (pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine) is toxic to dogs as well.

DM is a cough suppressant and expectorant (No decongestant)

Dextromethorphan HBr 10mg (cough suppressant)
Guafenisen 100mg (expectorant)

But I found just the Dextromethorphan by itself in a pill form in a Walgreens brand and like that better.
