Elmer, do you think that moved the stock down today? Maybe that's a near-term weakness just starting. Price war, no good news from economy, pc upgrade cycle is not starting yet - enough to go down. If it goes below $7, I will start looking for October $5 calls to buy. No particular plan yet.

Elmer, Sun & Xeon - why not Opteron? Too early. Sun needs a product for this year that is already shipping in volume and proven in the marketplace. I would not expect to see Sun shipping Opteron product until 2004.

You're right that Sun hates Intel, but they are desperate and such times require desperate actions. Opteron is just too late for a 2003 Sun product cycle.

There has been a lot of talk about a SUN takeover.

Remember, before the merger, how Compaq made itself more attractive to HP by dropping Alpha? Perhaps something similar is going on here.

Could SUN become an Xeon/itanum2 shop? Could be, if the suitor is Dell. This would close the itanium noose around the IT industry.
