#60145 RE: Moto-MOMO #60143

We have been approached by Ricardo, an international engine company (see the letter of endorsement). as well as Pratt-Whitey also expressed potential interest in our APT engine and lightweight engine materials technologies. Plus the initial Market is the U.S. Dept of Defense Market. HELLO $$$$$$$$

There is a large commercial market for low-emissions 2-stroke engines for everything from chain saws, lawnmowers and other gardening equipment to skimobiles and motorbikes. U.S. scooter manufacturer Motovox is currently using APT’s engines, and we anticipate that they will continue to be a customer for our lightweight engine designs.

Beyond the U.S. market, there is an enormous potential market for low-emissions, multi-fuel 2-stroke engines across the developing world. 2-stroke engines are the engines of choice for motor scooters and auto-rickshaw and other small vehicles ubiquitous in developing countries from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, though all of Southeast Asia and much of China. A major source of outdoor air pollution is carbureted two-stroke engines, which power 100 million “two-wheelers” (e.g. motorcycles, scooters) and “three-wheelers” (e.g. tricycles, “tuk-tuks”) across Southeast Asia. Each of these carbureted two-stroke engines produces the pollution output of 50 modern automobiles, thus contributing the pollution-equivalent of approximately 5 billion automobiles. These engines represent one of the largest sources of vehicular emissions in the world. During the recent summer Olympics, China

temporarily banned driving in an attempt to improve air quality. In an effort to reduce air pollution India and Pakistan are attempting to convert the auto-rickshaws to compressed natural gas, however then energy density of CNG is substantially less than kerosene and diesel fuel. Often fuel quality and purity are poorly controlled, and supplies of volatile fuels such as gasoline are erratic. Clean-burning engines, capable of running on a wide range of fuels, could have an enormous market. Since many of these countries have low labor costs and have a history of copying designs for local production, our strategy would be to license the technology to established auto-rickshaw and scooter manufacturers such as Kerala Auto, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motors in India and Zengcheng Benma Industrial Co, Taizhou Jiaojian Zhiwei Motorbike Manufacture Co., etc. in China.

5.0 Relationship with Future Research or Research and Development

Phase I project will demonstrate an engine concept for heavy fuel engine with greater than 1.5 to 1 horsepower to weight even without advanced materials, and will demonstrate, by analysis the design modifications/approach for high-altitude and cold temperature operation. The project will match advanced engineered materials to individual engine components to reduce weight while retaining the necessary mechanical properties and component fabrication capability. It will demonstrate, by analysis, that material substitution can reduce total engine mass relative to conventional materials, by 25 to 50 percent, and obtain a further 5 to 10 percent increase in efficiency by reducing the mass of reciprocating components. These results will provide the technical foundation to produce prototype engines using advanced engineered lightweight materials in Phase II.

No additional clearances, certifications, or approvals are required to conduct Phase II testing.
