kpf, yes, that is the sort of FUD I expect to see. Actually, Intel's response to Opteron has been rather muted so far. Perhaps they don't want to detract from their Centrino campaign, perhaps they feel they have time because server sales don't happen overnight. Maybe they don't want to talk about servers at a time when they are admitting to an important Itanium bug.

Whatever the reasons, we have not seen Intel's FUD counterattack, and that is weird.

What Hans de Vries discovered looking at Prescott's die should be enough to run
some 64-bit demo with this Chip at launch.


Hans started with the conviction that Prescott included 64 bit capability and then
went looking for it using digital die photo images of limited resolution. Like people
who expect a priori to see a face on Mars or Jesus on a certain taco shell, Hans
thinks he found what he was looking for. I don't know if Prescott has 64 bit capability
or not but Hans's "evidence" that it does is far from convincing.
