This is because you are looking at it as a silk replacement product. That topic was recently brought up as a worst case scenario. Anyone who knows anything about the company knows they are not looking to replace any of the silk market.
They are looking to replace the heavy weak cloth for something better. It might be silk as in a parachute. It might be nylon as in a football jersey. It might be the kevlar in a vest or polyester in a decon suit.
You are trying to imply we are looking to displace silk. That is probably the very last fiber industry we are trying to displace.
If nothing better worked out and all we ended up with was a better silk I agree it would take a decade or more to overtake the silk industry. That is not on the companys list of things to do.
There are so many uses for MS that have nothing to do with silk that your opinion is pretty much restricted to the limits of your vision of the product. There is a lot of information available for the uses of MS I would really look into it before you say it isnt worth it or it is a niche market. The "niche" that KBLBs fibers fall into is the grand canyon.
