Buying shares at a higher price (granted you buy higher then 100 shares) will actually push and drive the stock up to that price. I've seen it with my own eyes, it happens daily. I've seen one stock (name slips me) shoot up 20,000% in one day due to one trade of 400 shares.... It happens, most investors ignore and deny it but it happens.
