I'm not against speculation, but it got out of control here pretty quickly.
I mean, if you are worried(or even happy) about a possible run on the company then why not call them? Even if they can't answer you get a feel for whether anything is afoot or not. The outright unequivocal denial I got from them today puts this issue to bed and we move on. Management wants to grow this into a much bigger company, and does not appear inclined to want a quick payout and go home.
