"virus and malware infested beasts"
I'm betting the user in Gruber's example would laugh if he heard his Windows machine(s) described as "virus and malware infested beasts". Probably shake his head and mutter something like "typical exaggerated Macolyte FUD".
The whole baloney about "OS system failure" and a legion of botched presentations is 90% FUD in 2006. An accurate description of life in the previous century, but not part of what the real world Windows experience is like today.
"Hours maintaining a system because of endless Microsoft security patches"?? Are you serious? When is the last time you ran a Windows machine? Updates and security patches are EXACTLY the same as they are in Mac OS X. Auto-sensed, and auto-updated/installed. Or if you prefer, you can handle it manually as on the Mac, where you're automatically notified and make exactly one mouseclick on shutdown, and it installs during the shutdown process. This is just plain old bogus religious FUD.
I prefer my Mac to Windows by a mile. But I don't have to rely on FUD to rationalize my preference. I sometimes wonder why some Mac users seem to have such a Napolean complex.
