So the biggest news is the following: ISRG has their own single port platform in development and I saw a picture: camera and three flexible instruments though one port. Looks similar to SPORT, but hard to tell. Not sure if it will actually attach to the XI system. It will be available within 12 months. Don't think the ISRG people were honest, but they said that they are not worried about Titan at all, but this clearly looks like they want to make sure to have a competing product. The other future innovation in the pipeline is a surgical bed which will enable intra operative table motion.
I played with the XI system and it's an evolution and not a revolution, but clearly improved every aspect of the SI. I definitely want one.
The actual presentation was very very tacky. They had a 30 min countdown, then blasted music out into the exhibit hall, showed a video clip exactly like Apple does with Johnny Ive and unveiled the system which was behind a white curtain...CEO demonstrates new features. Huge buzz with lots of crowds in their booth.
