Well, my reasoning is that the "3G parts" for 7160 and 7260 are identical...just die shrunken on 7260. Very unlikely that Intel touched its 3G stack at this point as it is already tried, true, and most importantly validated with a bunch of carriers wink

Speaking of modems, looks like Intel isn't taking its foot off the accelerator...2015 brings us a new, probably 14nm, modem:

MediaTek will not be able to compete with the Qualcomm/Intel modem roadmaps and I predict within the next 2 years that it will lose significant share in phones/tablets. NVIDIA has already de-focused LTE/phones, and I don't think Marvell has the wherewithal to continue to invest to the levels needed in this space. Samsung's internal modems are MIA, and the clock is ticking for Broadcom to deliver.

This battle comes down to Intel and Qualcomm long-term, and I think Intel will price aggressively enough (thanks to in-house fabs) to keep QCOM's chip margins low to put an effective ceiling on how much QCOM is willing to invest in chips overall.
