Interesting hypothesis. However, I'd like to take it a step further.

Intel's LTE architecture has been basically to "bolt" the LTE modem to the 3G modem (that's why Intel uses two different DSP architectures). MediaTek does something similar.

Could Intel be using the "3G part" of the XMM 7260 solution, which is probably a shrunken 6360 (to make validation on the carriers easy)?
