He went on to establish a mobile-network service provider called Singlepoint in 1993. By 2003 Singlepoint had 1.9 million contract customers, and Caudwell had sold it to Vodafone for $650 million. He used the proceeds to grow his mobile handset wholesaler, Phones4U, to become a distribution powerhouse. In 2006 he sold a majority stake in the 10,000-employee firm to Providence Equity Partners for $2.8 billion.
