and the FPU in Dothan only did 1 DP FLOP/cycle

Wrong. Ever heard of packed SSE2 instructions?

The primary FP improvement from Dothan to Yonah was the
front end was changed to allow multiple SSEx instructions
to be decoded per cycle which improved *scalar* SSE FP
performance. The FPU execution resources probably didn't
change at all.
