Another encouraging development from QMC is that they appear to have effectively solved the “blinking” problem associated with quantum dots when used in display. Traditionally, when quantum dots are used to project or emit light, they occasionally experience an ultra-brief “blink.” At the nano level, this blink is virtually imperceptible, but over ally contributes to a less clear display. However, the company recently announced that the company announced an innovative “thick-shell” quantum dot technology that would increase brightness and stability for consumer electronics.
The good news, however, is that quantum dots aren’t completely new to consumer electronics displays: the Kindle Fire HDX tablets uses them, and has already suffered from the blinking/light bleed issues. Fortunately, Apple is in a position to learn from those mistakes and do it right on a device like the iPhone 6.
