Just as an initial response before I start digging... if one were to find in the other bailouts mostly oranges, versus the apples of FnF, might one then have some moral support in suggesting that the FnF apples are thus inherently unfair and tossed on that basis?

Very simplistic in pressing the metaphor, but I have no real facts yet. Just putting out the idea that leverage for compromise might be found in the idea that FnF were treated unfairly if they got apples and the others got oranges.
