Tanks for posting the article, which I had not seen. Good stuff. But it also shows up the tragic flaw in ISCA's thinking over the last 5+ years. The issue isn't reducing seating capacity; it is figuring out why the formerly full-to-capacity tracks are now substantially empty and why the fans left and where they went to.

There are a lot of very smart people in stock car racing circles. It would be an easy matter to put together a modern-era summit meeting like Bill France, Sr. did, so many years ago, and restore the sport to its former greatness. But the overall focus must be on THE SPORT, not THE MONEY. Therein lies the rub.

ISCA has become a "friends and family" patronage for the France family and NASCAR has become the parasitically-drained "host" from which they bleed the sport for enormous wealth at the expense of a loyal but relatively low-brow fan base that understands drinking Budweiser but fails to grasp the relevance of Dom Perignon. The France family has created a self-serving economic chasm that separates them from the NASCAR fan base in an ever-widening divide. I knew this was headed in the wrong direction at a Dover race back in 1999 when driver introductions were interrupted by Donald Trump helicoptering in, wearing a 3 piece suit, with a huge entourage of Gucci "suits" alongside, to the confusion of both the drivers and the fans.

GLTA. Harvick looked good in practice.
