Trying to keep things as simple as possible I use The hourly DMI 14 and look at the ADX to see if there is a trend indicated as taught to me by Chico.

mbcheng then pointed out to me the value of the 15 minute MACD
12-26-9 in giving you an earlier clue.

Both of these things I watch after I get an RSI 5 signal.
