Define "real work" and the answer can be whatever you want it to be.

Are you willing and ready to ditch your notebook and use an ipad exclusively? Is MS Office really the only thing holding you back?

The thing is, if you want to get real work done efficiently, you'll always be happier with a higher performance device. The more you shift from media consumption to trying to do "real work" on a tablet, the more apparent it becomes just how inferior IOS and Android tablets are compared to a real computer.

Now, I will admit lots of people seem willing to suffer the wretched downsides of tablets for doing many tasks. I can't fathom why, but I'm old-school so I'm quite aware that my answer isn't all that relevant.
