I agree with you, a nimble trader can make out pretty well as long as things stay volatile. But, a good sized gain one day, could easily vanish (and then some) the next.
I still think the long-term scenario is more predictable. Russian policies, and not the current crisis is the driver. Investors have felt less than comfortable with Russian investments for many years. The current situation is not going to improve investor sentiment. Putin fosters and projects Russian nationalism. If I were not a Russian national, I would not feel comfortable leaving my capital in Russia. And; then, there will be a very, few Russian winners, and many, many losers.
