It is curious that the availability of even the single CPU systems isn't until July. As always the question remains, can AMD produce this thing?

So they can produce the 2-way and 8-way but not the single?

Actually, what makes Opteron so impressive is the scaling it gets from aHT. A single Opteron server does have a latency advantage over a Xeon, but the Xeon has a throughput advantage. In 32-bit mode, I don't think the Opteron will perform much differently than a Xeon as a single processor server. Might even perform worse.

AMD is sandbagging the single processor version because it will not impress (until the 64-bit stuff is optimized). Introduced right now, it would seriously detract from the great press Opteron is receiving.
