This article was written by a native Chinese speaker so don't make too much out of the sentence "...big red recombinant spider silk fiber has been widely used in automobile industry". We know it hasn't been.

In Chinese, there is no such thing as verb conjugation to denote tenses. It's one of the most difficult parts of the English language for native Chinese speakers to master, because there are so many tenses, and each can only be properly used in select situations. Their language does not require verb tenses to communicate the concept of time, this is a huge problem when native Chinese speakers translate from Chinese to English. Chinese speakers know not to always use the present tense of English verbs, but sometimes their attempts at switching up the tenses lead to incorrect sentences.

The present perfect tense is especially hard for them.
