Paule a 30/30 is ok for 75-150 pound hogs at close range (less than 75 yds. in brush). Plus he has the luxury of getting to hunt any time he wants. We have actually killed a few 80-100 pounders to mix with deer meat, with .357 Mag's. But, you are paying money and have a limited amount of time so I'd stick with so called overkill rather than than going with a small caliber brush buster. Hogs are killed with many types of calibers statewide in Texas but, I'm telling you from experience since we have lots of hunters leasing from us and I have hunted hogs for 35 years that if I was paying money and only had X # of days I'd go with .454 Casull &/or 7mm & up. JMOHO!!!

Pre would know best since he's hunted there before.
