Curious article. He seems to think racksaver is cheating by selling RAM, storage and the base system cheaper than the equivalent from DELL. It's not apples-to-apples because Racksaver don't charge as much? I'm sure Racksaver can work out a special price if that's what's troubling him.

Also what's this "A Dell Xeon system (not the latest generation) cranked out 78,116.87". It's not the latest generation, it's the one after, with the exact same availability date as the Opteron system, namely 10/21/2003.

"The numbers show that the Opteron—a 64-bit processor—has performance that should be similar to the current-generation Xeons in 32-bit performance." - perhaps that's because the Opteron was running in 32 bit mode in the test!

"Unfortunately, AMD and a partner, RackSaver, have clouded the Opteron's rollout with a benchmark that leaves many questions unanswered. [...] the Dell design costs $15,000 more for a client configuration that is substantially less powerful than RackSaver's."

How terribly underhand of Racksaver and AMD!
