USMC Pilot Named Who Died in Nevada F/A-18 Accident

Thank you for your service Capt. Nannen, RIP....news of Military deaths always hit me hard...I think the unexpected training deaths more than Combat losses...my prayers to the wife and kids.

Marine Corps Captain Reid “Eeyore” Nannen, father of four, has been identified as the pilot who who died in a training exercise in Nevada flying the F/A-18C, by a memorial fundraising effort.

The Captain Reid Nannen Memorial Children’s Fund states,

“Reid was a fighter pilot through and through. He embodied all the qualities of the heroic aviators of old and was the leader of the new generation. His love of flying was surpassed only by his love of family. A devout father of four, his passion for family served as a gleaming example for all to emulate. There was no better husband, father or friend. He touched countless souls during his journey through life and the world is a better place for it. Help us ensure his family is supported through the troubling times ahead as well as to establish a solid foundation for his children so they can continue the path he started”

The plane crashed approximately 70 miles east of Naval Air Station Fallon, where it took crews several hours to reach the crash site due to snow storms and mountainous remote terrain. The crews who discovered the wreckage described it as a total loss.

The Marine jet was on loan to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center. On Sunday the Navy announced Sunday that the pilot had been killed in the crash in a Hornet, but has since released further updated information about the aircraft involved.

The Navy reported that no other injuries or damage resulted from the crash and that no munitions or weapons were present during the training flight.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Nannen’s loved ones. Please visit the memorial fund site if you would like to contribute the Reid Nannen family fund.
