Altera to switch 14nm chip orders back to TSMC, says paper

I can see they have concerns!
Going to the Digitimes article I feel a little annoyed every time I read something like 50% yield at TSMC or other foundries because I'm not really able to say to a reasonable degree what on earth it means. It is much worse if anything than the benchmark problems. How many transistors are they talking about? Are the defects sporadic or tend to be in clusters - how can one adjust for different size chips? How about parametric yield, does the yield go up because you can use lower performing parts? And I sure do hope they don't factor in redundancy.
