Ever since I started following NatCore I have been intrigued by their technology and their promise to double solar cell efficiency and halve the costs. However now I am reading about Semprius, and their solar cell appears already be doubling the efficiency at 35% while they also have a low cost manufacturing technology. They started mass manufacturing their Semprius cells more than a year ago. But then I noted they are targeting commercial and utility scale solar deployments, and I think Natcore technology is more suited to rooftop installations, right? Perhaps Semprius aims to compete more with First Solar and Sun Power rather than with Natcore potential customers?
I believe there are plenty of niches for companies involved with solar energy. Sometimes I wonder if Natcore's tech could be complementary with another solar technology. Their LPD technology certainly seems like an amazing breakthrough. I hope we hear news soon about a Natcore contract in China or elsewhere.
Any observations or corrections?
