ut27rod, Gary said he's taking a mini vacation this weekend so I'll answer your question because I also have E*TRADE am familiar with them.

When you buy a security and later sell a portion of it, E*TRADE selects the first shs you bought to offset the shs you are selling. If, for some reason, you would rather sell shs you bought later, you can scroll down and key in the ones you'd like to sell. One reason to do that is that the prices you bought at different times are probably different and you might want the sell to offset shs you bought after the first ones that were bought.
