OT: Altaire, nope, but

I also think that if the Israelis were to fly over Iraq without US permission, the US would be forced to sanction Israel somehow and remember that we send a LOT of money and arms to Israel and they depend on us for.... survival.

And if the US gave permission for such a bomb raid, there'd be he11 to pay politically and pretty much light a match to a Shiite uprising in Iraq that I don't think we could handle, considering how (not) well we've been dealing with the Sunni insurgency -- can you imagine if we turned the Shiite majority into raging mad insurgents there?

Not to mention other contries that would literally go on the warpath if the US "allows" the Israelis to bomb Iran.

No, I don't think we'd actually shoot down Iraeli planes, but because everyone KNOWS we COULD and if we didn't do anything about it... kiss the middle east and its oil goodbye...

It's too ridiculous to consider that Israel is going to bomb Iran -- aside from the physical and political problems, it is at the far range of Iraeli planes, there are literally too many targets necessary to put a dent in Iran's program, and many of them are in hardened facilities and not sitting out for a duck shoot like the raid against Iraq's nuke plant last decade.
