Proton Cancer Therapy: The Scripps Proton Therapy Center, in collaboration with the UC San Diego Health System (the 15th cancer center to install the technology), is using proton therapy to treat cancer patients. According to Scripps, proton therapy does not suffer the same radiation damage as does X-ray therapy used in present day mamograms. The San Diego Union Tribune has just posted a 5 page article on this use of protons on today's (23 February) webpage. It might make interesting reading for some of us (P.S. It's an expensive technoloy to use verus X-ray radiation treatment).
