Thanks for the input. Your experience with "pac hell" is very similar to my own with Comcast (used to be @Home). Very arrogant techs with virtually no knowledge, who want to blame everything on my computer rather than their system. I had no problems with the system until they changed modems, which I later learned was to intentionally slow down the access speed - I assume the next step will be to offer to speed back up for an additional fee.

I have about come to the conclusion that the only way I will be able to tell about the difference between the two will be to bring out the DSL and compare speeds here in my office - the speed is too dependent on location and condition of the wires to be able to guess which will be better. The biggest advantage I can see so far is that whatever speed I get on DSL will be constant, rather than fall dramatically during high use periods as the cable does. After talking with both companies over the weekend, the bottom line on speed is that they are quick to tell me they can provide speeds "up to" 1500kbs but they are not willing to talk about "down to" some floor beneath which it will not fall.
