Applied DNA Sciences Signs Eighth Electronics Manufacturer to SigNature® DNA Marking Program for DLA
STONY BROOK, NY, February 20, 2014. Applied DNA Sciences (OTCQB: APDN), (Twitter: @APDN), a provider of DNA-based anti-counterfeiting technology and product authentication solutions announced yesterday that it had signed its tenth Long Island-based defense supplier, a manufacturer, as part of an effort by the US Defense Logistics Agency which requires use of the company's counterfeit prevention product SigNature® DNA on certain electronic parts provided to the Agency.

The company, Modular Devices, is the eighth Original Component Manufacturer (OCM) to comply with the DLA requirement to use SigNature DNA marking.

Modular Devices, Inc. provides space grade hybrid microcircuits to agencies such as NASA, as used in the Mars Pathfinder Mission, and suppliers to many prime contractors to the US Department of Defense. As a manufacturer, the company will be provided with a unique DNA-based Authenticity Mark, absolutely assuring originality, wherever that part travels in the supply chain. APDN calls its technology the gold standard in anti-counterfeiting and authentication solutions on today's market.

Said Bob MacDowell, Senior Account Manager of Government and Military Programs for APDN:

"As a lifelong Long Island resident, who grew up just a stone's throw from MDI's facility, I am excited to be part of the growing SigNature DNA Compliant ecosystem. Together, APDN and industry can defeat the counterfeiters utilizing advanced technologies, such as SigNature DNA, to create a secure and forensically impenetrable supply chain."

Said Janice Meraglia, Vice President of Government and Military Programs at Applied DNA Sciences:

"As increasing numbers of electronics manufacturers adopt SigNature DNA marking, the platform takes on an even more powerful role in the military supply-chain. The Authenticity Marks provide the highest value for supply-chain as a whole."

Steve Summer, President of Modular Devices, Inc. stated:

"Modular Devices, Inc. is committed to implementing the US Defense Logistics Agency DNA marking requirement. We appreciate the support of ADPN, a local Long Island biotech firm, who is firmly committed to supporting the Long Island defense community, and enhancing our desire to explore new business opportunities through the use of DNA marking."

Said Dr. James A. Hayward, CEO and President, Applied DNA Sciences:

"SigNature DNA compliance with the DLA requirement is offering our early adopters a selling advantage, and a rapid return on their investment. The potential to combine Long Island's heritage in biotech and defense is huge and enhances the safety of our warfighters and citizens."
