i'll second cable over DSL.

partly because it allowed us to completely eliminate the phone company from our lives - we're 100% wireless phone - and partly because DSL has historically been more of a hassle what with all the idiotic PPPoE policies phone companies have implemented that can make home networking such an unbelievble pain in the backside.

price also a consideration: bundling in all the cable channels etc essentially brought the price down to $8/month. clearly this is provider/area dependant.
