I don't think that the folks on this board realize there is a difference between a placer mine and other kinds of open pit mines. Oh well, we tried. However, your point about no public companies successfully operating placer mines in the Lower 48 is the important point, and appears to be over their heads as well.

There are a dozen examples of placer mining stinky pinkie companies and even a couple SEC-reporting companies (e.g. BONZ) that have tried their hand at placer mining in the last couple years. Most produced absolutely nothing except a bunch of scammed investors. A few even produced a little gold, supposedly (e.g. PCFG). But, I can't think of one that produced gold at a profit.
