I think I would differentiate between TSE and TSX. TSE is the bigger exchange like NYSE. Venture is more like otc with many resource companies(read no revs).

I think TSX is similar to otc. They are fully reporting and actually for energy companies, Canada has more conservative reporting for reserves than the US.

I have quite a few Canadian juniors listed on the TSX but feel ok about their honesty and transparency. I can call them just like US companies. They file with SEDAR and have CPA annual audits.

Situations like hye are no different in the US or Canada. This was a high growth situation created by a merger and acquisition. Their aggressive guidance should have been a warning to me but I let greed cloud my assessment. I still think they have good prospects for increasing production but the internal disagreement between the CEO and board are going to make it hard for the company to reach their original goals. The fact that there was misreporting of production is a biggie. CEO says it wasn't his fault but the buck stops at his office.

High growth = high risk. That's true in the US or Canada. Add in a preponderance of commodities based businesses and I think you could say the TSX is by nature volatile and has some very high risk companies. I think you could easily say the same thing about otc.
