The point is people aren't paying a premium. Unless you can give me specific names of the small businesses selling cheaper, it's really quite clear that online prices will usually beat out any retail store.

I can give you a good comparison off the bat. Bought supplies from HIDhut.com including one of their super cheap ballasts. 3 months later, mid flower the thing fails completely. I then have to go to a retail store and actually pay the higher price from a local 'ma and pa shop' for a galaxy ballast that I would have been able to buy cheaper had I gone to greners in the first place.

Rewiring that hood with the new ballast was a chore, but lesson learned.

At the same time I love the idea of supporting your local small businesses, so I encourage you to continue and support them if you plan to grow.

The internet price and accessibility makes it overwhelmingly more appealing for me despite whatever 20-50$ that may add on for shipping. I can get it all right there without having to look specifically for brands like galaxy, fox farm or inline can fans at multiple retail shops.

Again, I don't see how the smaller fish could sell any cheaper and stay in business - perhaps the wool has been pulled over the eyes of the entire industry - a big price markup conspiracy and all that, right?
