My experience in working on high speed memory interface
standards and circuits.

One DIMM connected to an MPU or chipset is a point to
point signalling system. Two or more DIMMs connected
to an MPU or chipset is a multi-drop bus that has much
worse signal integrity characteristics at high frequency.
