there is definitely something going on with the 3rd monitor when the bigger one is connected. The only difference really would be resolution between his 17 inch and the 24 inch. Except maybe the power. So I'm baffled as to what his problem would be. A computer with multiple video cards, or even 1 card that can run 3 monitors, this wouldn't be an issue at all. Extend the desktop and done.
