I've been to the doctor several times in the last three years for symptoms from a cold virus. I was afraid I was developing an infection but when I saw the doc she said she saw no evidence of infection and recommended waiting for antibiotics. So I didn't take them and ended up not needing them. The point is not all doctors do what you suggest and more and more are doing the opposite. Waiting and letting the body do the work.
