Here in NJ we've been doing the SREC's with our solar panels at work. Been doing it since 2009... It's a great investment if you have the initial monies to put up... I think it cost us @ $40,000 then we got money back from the state and a tax write off of from the Feds... Total out of pocket ended up being roughly $10,000. But we got more back in a tax return and sell the SRECs back to the electric company. (or something like that)
