I think you would be surprised how even this issue is in both parties. A recent public policy poll found the majority of republicans in Florida support medical legalization. In Texas, an overwhelmingly Republican state over 60% are in favor of legalization. This is no longer a left-right issue, as the Republican Party has started to shift more towards libertarianism as LA correctly stated. IMO there will soon be large bipartisan support for legalization. It shouldn't take long before MJ is legal nationwide, regardless of if the Dems or Repubs have power.
